One of the biggest barriers for students going to school is often simply getting there. It is common for students to report to school late and tired—if they arrive at all—because of the long distances they have to travel. Paying for public transportation to go to school every day is often too expensive for their family. Although in some areas tuition is free, school transportation is still a big obstacle for these students.
In our Bikes for School program, we provide bicycles for elementary, middle, and high school students as both a mode of transportation to school and an opportunity to travel around and explore the cities they live in with their friends.
Below are the Bike for School recipients from the Yos Sudarso Gandrungmangu Middle School, Immaculata Cilacap Middle School, and SMA Yos Sudarso High School in Cilacap, Central Java.
