CERDAS Foundation brings more than 1,000 school bags to students in Sumatra

Basic school supplies are an essential need for children attending school; unfortunately for many underprivileged students, these basic needs are still a luxury. Some students use tas kresek/plastic bags to keep and bring their books, pencils, and other belongings to school.

For a child, having a school bag or a notebook can often be the difference between being excited to go to school or refusing to go at all.

This past year, CERDAS Foundation partnered up with the organization The School Projects to provide basic school needs for students in North Sumatra. In August 2017, a total of 1,100 pre-assembled backpacks filled with essential school supplies such as notebooks, pens, erasers, pencils, sharpeners, and rulers were distributed to elementary students in 10 schools in Kecamatan Natal, North Sumatra.

We hope the school bags will help provide these students with the basic learning tools they need to do well, but to also help give them the confidence they need to be successful in school.
